Vancouver Island Action for Children – 2010
Members: Mary Manning Centre, Pacific Centre Family Services Association, Victoria Young Entrepreneurs Society, citizen of Qualicum Beach, Static Entertainment & Publishing – and more to come!
Dear friend and partner,
We are posting this to let you know of an innovative new awareness raising plan and how you can become involved.
We (Vancouver Island Action for Children group) are working together to plan a week of awareness raising activities in locations through Vancouver Island November 2010.
As a result of our activities we expect to reach citizens, youth and professionals in order to:
Raise awareness & understanding of child abuse/mistreatment.
Support actions that can be taken to prevent child abuse.
Shift in attitudes towards children & treatment of children.
To achieve this we will:
Provide information about child abuse & mistreatment.
Provide information regarding actions that may be taken
Provide information on resources
Provide entertaining and emotional experiences to learn about and understand the issues.
…through a range of different methods. We will invite local resources to join us in a resources fair at each location, highlight personal stories where possible, work with local and national artists to create a program of musical and literary entertainment, culminating in a large concert at the end of the week and overall we will celebrate recovery and protection.
We are planning on running events from Campbell River, through Qualicum Beach/Parskville, Courtenay/Comox, Port Alberni, Nanaimo and Duncan to Sooke and Victoria for the finale. We will run these events during the week commencing November 15th 2010, culminating with our major event on November 20th, National Children’s Day.
We are hoping that you share the same beliefs and will support our work to raise awareness by getting involved. For example, you may want to join our steering committee, network with local performers or agencies, help with publicity or provide your own skill or knowledge to benefit our project.
